Yellow Pages Advertising Tips - Are You Making This Key Error When You Think About Your Yellow Pages

Thanks in part to the rising popularity of the internet, consumers (that's all of us) are spoiled these days, and have gotten into a "search" mindset: We know that we can search for what we want or need anytime we want or need to, so more than ever we HATE to be advertised at when WE didn't make our own choice to search for something.

People are sick of being bombarded and interrupted by untargeted marketing messages these days (aren't you?). They're telling businesses loud and clear NOT to interrupt ...

... their TV shows with commercials (TiVo, cable TV, DVD's, On Demand, etc.)
... their newspaper or magazine stories with ads (circulation drops every year)
... their drives down the highway with billboards (anti-billboard laws)
... their music with commercials (Satellite Radio, iPods, etc.)
... their internet surfing with advertisements (Pop-Up and Spam Blockers, Junk Emailboxes, etc.)
... their dinners and evenings at home with telemarketing calls (Do Not Call List)
... their mailboxes with direct mail (they call it "Junk Mail", don't they?)

Starting to see the difference between permission-based, search advertising (internet and Yellow Pages) and interruption-based marketing? Good. This is the single most important distinction you can make if you're frustrated and confused by the results of your overall marketing strategy:

It isn't ALL marketing that is risky and confusing and doesn't work as well as it used to. Only interruption-based marketing is dying, while permission-based marketing is booming.

You've heard the saying "People hate to be sold, but they love to buy", right? Well, we all know that's true - now more than ever. Your prospects hate to be interrupted with advertising - but when they know they have a need they'll look for you.

Respect people by giving them control over their own shopping, and they'll respond by putting their money into your pocket.

And realize this: When prospects are looking for you (Yellow Pages and internet), you have their full attention and they want you to provide as much information as possible. But when you try to interrupt them, you have their partial attention at best, and they usually can't wait until your advertising is done so they can get back to whatever you interrupted in the first place. OUCH!

The first place most people look is still the book that's delivered free to every single home and business: their local Yellow Pages. It isn't the newest idea, and it isn't sexy. But it works. Period. The internet Yellow Pages and search engines are smaller but growing options as well.

If you have a large advertising budget and can afford to take big risks, then go ahead and try various interruption-based marketing methods. But if you want the best bang for your local advertising buck, then do yourself a favor and focus on what works best with today's shoppers: permission-based, search marketing (Yellow Pages and internet). Then only after you're using winning strategies with your Yellow Pages and internet marketing should you even think about risky and complex things like "media mix", "branding" and interruption-based marketing in general.

You Have to Have A Hook

If you want the media to pay attention to you-you must have a "hook." The hook makes you different from everyone else who is trying to get on the air or in print. Here is a tip on how to find your hook. Most of you will be doing one of two things:

a) you will be controversial or

b) you will be solving a problem

Think about what keeps people up in the middle of the night..... and then solve their problem! People care about the same things.

Money, Careers, Relationships, Health, and subsets of each one of those. Solve a problem and you will hook them... example: "The 5 Ways to lose 10 pounds by next week"

Remember to think in headlines and KEEP IT SIMPLE

The media does not care about you. they only care if you can be an interesting interview or a great guest on their TV or radio show. The newspaper editors want you to react to what is in the news.

They don't want you to to push your product or service too much. The editors want you to have bullets-and tips and give their reader action items to do today.

They will interview you if they consider you an expert. That is why you need to write articles, have web sites and most importantly have a book. If you are an author - the media considers you to be a leading authority. More on how to become an author in our next article. Remember to think in headlines and KEEP IT SIMPLE.

Why Hire Event Organizers In Manila?

Before you ask the question about why you should hire event organizers in Manila, you should first think about the reason why you want the event in the first place. Most probably, it is because there is a very important event in your life or it may be because it is essential for business operations. For this reason, it is essential for you to get the best services possible in order to make event successful and memorable. Hiring event organizers in Manila is very much recommended because they have the necessary expertise, time, and resources to plan the event thoroughly.

The most common reasons why people chose event planners include:

• Celebrations - such as weddings, birthdays, reunions, parades, and anniversaries

• Educational purposes - includes meetings, conferences, and graduation

• Promotions - includes political rallies, fashion shows, and product launches

• Commemorations - includes civic events and memorials

But there are many other reasons why people need to event organizers, this list is not an exhaustive one because people hire event organizers in for social and business events and everything in between.

Event organizers in Manila also do a list of exhaustive tasks that can overwhelm a client with no experience in event organizing. For example, some of the things that event companies have to do include conducting research, developing the design concept, implementing the design, finding the perfect venue, arranging the food, arranging the d?r, finding entertainers for the event, and sending out the list of invitation. In addition, some related tasks may include arranging the transportation of the attendees and their accommodations as well if applicable.

As you can see, the job of evemnt planning and event organization is not an easy task. Event organizing is a specialist field, expanding only when one has perfected a niche, perfecting a system and set of core services that is both impressive and satisfying for both client and vendor.

What You Should Look For In A Business Directory

With so many business directories out there these days, it's hard to really find the right one to spend your money on. What about free directories, do they really offer the same or better than "paid for" directories? Read on and I'll tell you...

Free, are they any good?
Let's start with the free directories, are they any good? The answer is simple, YES, but with shades of gray. Free directories make their money by building a massive database of business listings for free, and then charging big companies a lot to advertise on that website. 99% of free directories have hundreds of thousands of listings in their database, what happens then, because so many other businesses are adding their listings, is that yours get bumped down to page 3000 of the search results and nobody ever notices your listing.

Use free directories only if you have a website for your business because the directory will probably establish a much needed one-way link to your site. If a free directory does not provide a link to your website, don't bother to submit your listing.

Paid for, how much is too much?
Paid for directories usually offer very affordable prices to get your business listed as well as some kind of free content as a marketing gimmick. These directories also ensure that your listing can compete fairly not only in their directory, but on the web as well, by designing your business listing with SEO in mind. Paid for business directories will almost always link to your business website and generates enough money, by providing a quality service, to employ customer care services, business managers and professional web designers to ensure that they can always provide businesses with the best and most affordable solution.

Get price quotes of about 3 or 4 of these paid directories and consider investing the small amount they ask. When a business directory asks more than $50, or its equivalent, it's too much and you should consider going for something cheaper.

In conclusion
Use the advice in this article to ensure you get the best directory for your business. A business is a very hard thing to maintain and the internet is providing a whole new platform to compete in, but at the same time making it very difficult to do so.

A quality business directory will ensure that they take care of your listing so you don't have to worry about internet marketing and can focus on your running your business. One such directory is the IZA Business Directory at http://www.businessdirectory.iza.co.za

IZA is only for the country of South Africa but will give you a pretty good idea of what to expect from a quality business directory.

In such situation it is important to attract the consumers to your brand so that you can stay in the market for a longer time. This is only possible if the consumers are informed about your brand and its products and rely on the same. The best way to reach out to the masses is through advertisements and the easiest method for advertising is through corporate gifts.

There are a number of different types of promotional items and other products that may be used as gifts or printed gifts for advertising your brand. These items impress the clients and consumers easily and they are attracted to the said brand. The corporate gifts build a good brand image and the consumers would prefer your products and services as compared to the other brands. These gifts have the brand name and image imprinted on them which advertise the brand and remind the consumers of the products again and again. Reaching Promotional Item Individuality and Creativity

Feel like your company has fallen overboard and is drowning in the perpetual sea of overly used and ordinary promotional items? Well, you're probably not the only one who's company is neck deep floating in a sea full of t-shirts, pens, coffee mugs and bags. From lack of creativity weaved into the selection process of promotional items, it's all too easy to slip overboard and get immersed in a sea blanketed with promotional garbage. To avoid overboard status and swimming in such a promotional mess there are some easy and obvious questions and methods a company can inquire about, adopt and utilize.

By going through a few simple motions individuality and creativity will soon be at hand, not an inner tube for saving a drowning company.

Understand Utilization Importance

Firstly, before even considering a specific promotional product, one must first take into account how to correctly utilize a promotional item to better enhance, quicken business growth and add shelf-life to a company name. This understanding is attained through knowing, but more importantly through identifying exact promotional products that will yield extremely positive results and prove very effective in the long run. When identifying a promotional item, to gain an innovative twist, factor in individuality and functionality.

Purposeful Promotional Inclusion

When considering and selecting a promo item, ask "what are we trying to accomplish by giving away promotional item X?" Then, ask "how can promotional item X have individualistic and creative qualities?" Perhaps, a company's purpose is to provide an organizational item X, or an item X that allows stress relief or even entertainment for while working in an office environment. Respond with an answer revealing what item X's intended purpose will be and what it will gain based around functionality. Then, the creativity aspect can come into play through means of tweaking item X's appearance, form and etc.

Ahoy, Creativity!

Now comes the fun part, being creative. This though, isn't all fun and games. Being creative in selecting and finalizing a promotional product is more trying that most would expect. The easy part is going beyond ordinary ways. The hard part is being innovative, yet also effective. Being overly artsy will or creative will yield a promo item that draws more puzzlement than astonishment. Creating a more universally accessible, yet still amazing promotional item will create increased usability, but better yet, re-usability.

Go above and beyond when selecting your next promo item, choosing items that possess innovative ideas or functions that have never been attempted or revealed yet. This will guarantee creative success, but also assure that you'll stand apart as a company with distinct and fresh promo gifts at trade shows.

Don't throw your company inner tube out to sea just yet. If anything, throw it away as trash, because you won't need it, especially if you follow the above motions. For creativity and individuality to shine through among your next batch of promotional items remember to understand utilization importance, adopt purposeful promotional inclusion and lastly, but most obviously, be imaginative and bold. Do this, and your company will be neck deep in success rather than floating promotional garbage.

4 Tips to Maximize the Effectiveness of Your Posters

Nothing beats the excitement of ripping through the brown packaging of printing companies and getting hold of your new posters. But before you get too excited with poster printing though, read through the article to understand a few things about advertising with posters.

1. Limit Your Focus:

Many small businessmen who create their own posters sometimes miss out advertising opportunities simply because they want their posters to accomplish too much at one time. It is common to have posters that are too cluttered with information that is barely readable.

Although there are a lot of intuitive information your poster can say about your company, your products, your services, etc. You should have a central idea you want to communicate. Is it a new product on offer? Are you advertising an event? Do you want to build up the brand name more than the actual products?

2. Scaling Up on Graphic Design:

In the case of posters, style is substance. Designers will often tell you that graphic design for business cards, brochures, flyers etc. should never upstage the content. When it comes to poster design graphics is the content.

Remember, you only have a few seconds. Tell as much as you can in that short span of time. As much as possible your graphics should be able to tell it all. If you put in a witty caption, be sure it supports your graphics.

When you have details you need to convey though, use traffic stopping graphics and a big unambiguous caption - "Graphic Design Expo" "Tripe Weekend Sale". Those who are interested will stop and read the detailed text even when they are smaller and found at the bottom or lower third of the poster. Set the mood, build up the excitement then deliver your sales pitch.

3. Follow Through:

In most cases, posters are created simply to look good and generate positive visual associations with your business. Customers often see them for seconds at a time, and would hardly make the sale themselves.

Use posters to set the stage for your other more informative marketing materials like brochures and flyers. Back up these advertising tools with a comprehensive and easy to navigate website that gives your customers the information they need about your business.

Better yet, use your posters to direct the viewers to your most powerful marketing tool - your sales personnel. Always remember to place your store location.

4. Be Honest with Your Advertisement

It was once said that "advertising is the art of legalized lying". Although many big businesses adhere to such deceptive practices, small businesses with a tight knit clientele cannot afford to do the same. Be sure to maintain the integrity of your business as it will be the starting ground of future and hopefully profitable relationship with your customers.

It is important to constantly deliver on your promise and ensure customer satisfaction. Your poster printing sets the standards your customer will gauge your business. It may be tempting to over promise and hype up your offer, which is a sure way to get dissatisfied customers. When it comes to your ads, be sure to under promise and over deliver.

Cheap Printing - When Print Ads Becomes Too Much

Does cheap printing translate to paying less money for the same value, or paying the same money for more value? Both ways of thinking are valid. Either one will increase your ROI and have their own set of advantages and disadvantages according to circumstances. But which one should you choose?

First, you have to look into the dynamics of your marketing goals and your budget. What you find will help you answer will help you know when to stop or keep Investing.

A) Did you create your marketing plan's goals on strategies according to the amount of resources available to you?

B) Or did you create your budget according to your marketing plan's goals and strategies?

When an Increase in ROI Means More Profit

To state the obvious, having more money now allows you to pursue more marketing opportunities. You can use the left over money to either widen the scope of your advertising to more people, or intensify your efforts. Money after all begets money.

1) Extending your printing can be more than 50% or 80% cheaper for the subsequent prints.

2) If the rate of returns for 1000 direct-mail-advertisement is 3% or 30 deals, then increasing it to 2,000 will generate 60 deals.

3) If you have compiled your mailing list though from your customer database, making your direct-mail-advertising more frequent increases your rate of return.

4) The more customers you have, the more chances there are of attracting more customers through referrals and word-of-mouth over the long term. An increase in sales can be indirectly attributed to your ads.

This may sound like an argument to get more prints instead of taking the savings, but at what point should the investing stop?

Law of Diminishing Returns

If you chose to adjust your budget to your goals and strategies though, you must already know the answer. At a certain point, an increase in investment will not make an increase in profit or profitability.

1) Making your advertisement more regular will familiarize your customers with your services, build recognition, give more information and will eventually lead to an increase of sales. If you send your mail too frequently, your customers' will find it annoying, discard your print, think of you as pushy and will be counter-productive to your sales.

2) If you are advertising a consumable product for a special needs product, any increase in advertising will not increase your response. Any increase in advertising will not expand your market, and making yourself more desirable to your existing market will not make them consume your products faster.

3) If your capacity to supply is limited, any increase in demand will not give your business more profit. It will even be detrimental if more people came to your shop and you are unavailable to provide the products or service to them. Cheap printing can be tempting but advertising can be a guessing, make sure you only advertise to as much as you can handle.

Avoid Misleading Advertising In Business

I have been in the market for one of those new flat panel LCD screens recently. You know the one I am talking about. A picture so clear you feel like you are there. I started doing my homework on the products, reading the reviews and looking to catch a sale.

Low and behold, I am going through the Sunday ads, and I see the one I wanted at a great price. It has everything I could ask for, digital, high def, 1080px resolution, I can hang it on a wall, you name it, and it has it.

I get to the store, walk up to the counter and show them the ad, and the retailer says "sorry we sold out of them, but let me show you some others". I think to myself, 'sold out? How is that possible, when the ad ran this morning'? So now, are they not only sold out, but the sales person wants to show me some others that were more expensive and had less features...what a shocker.

This has happened to almost everyone I have ever talked to. It is a sales technique used by a lot of mom and pop stores called the bait and switch. They run a small ad in a circular for the most popular product at a price that is incredible. This gets the consumer into the store. Once in the store, they tell the shopper they are sold out, but they have other models there for sale.

Not only is this tactic, and it is a tactic, deceptive and unethical, in most states in America, it is highly illegal. I have seen businesses try this and literally get shut down by law enforcement officials.

If you are in business now, or thinking of going into business, do not engage in false, misleading or deceptive advertising. Make sure your claims are accurate. Nothing is more horrible then trying to deceive a customer. All it takes is for you to deceive one customer and that bad news will spread like wildfire. You will soon be begging people to buy from your business, should it withstand the negative press.

A family friend of mine was caught almost victim to this. He was buying a computer, responded to an ad, and then when he got there, they didn't have any left. They then tried to sell him some cheap rip off of the same product. Lucky for him he called them on it, because he is an attorney and knows the law. He asked to see a sales receipt of the last one sold of the product he was looking for. They refused saying they don't share that information. A couple days later he got the BBB in on it and the store was shut down.

It really is that big of a deal. Do not partake in those practices. You may get away with it for a little bit, but eventually it will catch up to you, and you could find yourself out of business, in court, owing lots of money or even worse in jail.

Eventually you will anger the wrong customer. The last thing you want as a business is angry customers who spread bad press.

Monitor Restaurant Advertising Expenses

Advertisement is one of the reasons why your restaurant gets exposure. Though it can be really expensive to put up an advertisement for your restaurant; the tendency of a restaurant owner and manager is to jump on the opportunity to get the next best advertising approach for their restaurant. After all, it's going to be the restaurant business itself which is going to garner the profit later on.

But what is usually the case is that restaurant owners and managers are never able to get hold of the most effective advertising approach. It simply means that yes, the ads worked because many people came; some whose faces you are not familiar with. But, are you sure that these people went to your restaurant because of the ad you placed? No, you are not. So the question is; how sure are you that the ads you have paid for are really bringing you back the dollars you have spent on them? How sure are you that your business is really reaping profits because of the ads?

The answer is that you will never know for sure which ads work and which ones that does not. It will be too impossible to take note of all the reasons why you have customers coming and going. A customer may just also drop by your restaurant without seeing a single ad you placed. There can be so many reasons and you will never know which ones are definite. So, what are you going to do to identify your profit loss and gain through the ads you put out?

You can start finding out just what you want by distributing comment cards to your customers which have the question line that runs this way: "How did you hear about us?" You really don't need to make sure that each and every one of your customer gets a card and must write down their opinion. But it is a start! You can try this three times a week. And then do a weekly tally of the results you get.

By simply trying out other fresh ideas on how you can track your advertisement expenses, you will be able to determine at least an estimate of the percentage that works and gets across to your customers. After that, you can then think of the next marketing strategy you can try to even increase your restaurant sales.

Why is everyone so busy with advertising and branding? It's because these large companies know that they sell their businesses image first, and their products second. And for small shop owners, a sale starts with window shopping. Make sure your store looks like a success with trendy window signs and sell your business image.

You may be a store-around- the- corner that market the fact that you are a familiar neighborhood business, but try updating the look of your store and see even more business come in. People are always intrigued and drawn to novelty, and a little face lift to reinvent your look might give your sales a lift as well.

1. When you are unsure about a drastic change, use a static cling for your new look. This is a non-adhesive material and as the name indicates attaches itself to the glass surface using static. With its non-adhesive back that is easy to mount on to your glass surface, and is even easier to remove without the messy residue.

2. Get the perfect fit. The window sign can be printed from your large format printing company and comes in the size specification you choose from anywhere between 8x8inches to as big as 51x100 inches with a half inch size increment. You can have a small design at one corner of the window, a frame or measure the full area of your store window and the entire space for your design.

3. You can have your window sign printed on an opaque material to have full solid colors, or if you don't want to block your store window with your window sign, have it printed on a clear material. This gives your print the translucency you need to let your customers see through.

4. Remember that commercial design is designing to attract your customers. Good commercial design is always updated with the trends, in tune with the context, and blends with its environment. Its one thing to produce striking designs, but it's always quite another to find your store design completely out-of-place.

Remember to keep your designs in context with the following suggestions:

5. Use the prevalent color scheme.

• Spring colors - Mostly pastel colors

• Summer colors - Bright primary colors

• Fall colors - Deep Reds, Brown, Burnt Orange

• Winter colors - Gray, Blue, Black, Silver

• Christmas Colors - Red, Green, Gold, and Silver

• Halloween Colors - work around black and orange colors

6. Use popular themes

• Spring: Easter, Floral designs,

• Summer: Sun, Sea, and Sand

• Fall: Leaves, Leaves, Leaves

• Winter: Snowflakes, Snowman, snow angels

• Christmas: Nativity, Santa Claus, Reindeer,

• Halloween: Witches, Pumpkins, Bats,

7. Advertise New Events

• Draw Customers with SALE signs

• Use big bold letters to let your people know your seasons promos

• Announce New Product Arrivals

• Introduce New Services

Use window signs to create a variety of designs for your store fronts at minimal cost. Better yet, because they are non-adhesive, you can simply store them for future use. Add a little window trimming and make window shopping an experience for your customers.

The Danger of Getting Caught in the Message Clutter

I found out years ago when my first child was born that we had to ramp up our income. I was working for several clients and making enough money for a guy and his new bride to live a comfortable lifestyle. Then came the first child. We had to scramble to increase our income dramatically. I now had to market my services at a level that I've never had to before. I needed more clients!

The reality of advertising and marketing hit me very hard. I now had to face the same issues my clients face on a day to day basis. The biggest issue to marketing my business was getting through to more prospects. My message kept getting caught up in the mess of advertising, marketing, and daily life.

So here's my answer to overcoming the issues of getting my message to my prospects. First, let me give you a little background information.

April 2004: A Yankelovich Partners poll for the American Association of Advertising concluded that consumers believed they are constantly bombarded with advertising.

61% said that advertising was out of control.

60% said that they had a negative opinion of advertising.

54% said that they avoided buying products that overwhelm them with ads.

How do you overcome the Message Clutter?

Carefully select your buyers.

Educate your prospective clients.

Entertain them.

Focus on referrals

Make them an offer they can't refuse.

If you could build the ideal profile of your best client, what would they be like?

List 10 traits of your ideal client, then determine how many of them you can realistically service each month. How much is my ideal client really worth to me and how many of them can I work with?

Do the math to calculate your conversion rate.

If you actively presented your business to 100 prospective clients, how many could you convert to paying clients for your product or service in a month?

Is there an opportunity to generate repeat business from these clients?

What is the buying cycle for your average client?

Let's take your answers to the next step.

Here's an example:

Our Dentist has an average per patient rate of $3200.00 a year. He wants to double his ideal patient roster and introduce several new products this year.

Our Dentist currently sees 100 patients a month. The number of patients that currently fit his ideal profile is about 40 a month. He determines that an additional 40 ideal clients a month would make his goal a reality. Now he must find them.

Educate your clients.

Now that we have a idea of who we need to reach, let's get to reaching them.

Let's be clear about this fact. People might hate being sold to but they all want more information on what to buy. They want to be educated.

People are interested in knowing more about the things that interest them. If they can get the right information at the right time, they will be in a great position to take action in their interest.

Entertain them.

When you want to stand out, you can make an impression with your audience by inserting humor into your presentations. Humor leaves a lasting impression.

Focus on Referrals

Another way to circumvent the message clutter is to petition your current clients for referrals. There are ways to do this without begging. One way is to combine education and referral strategies - Invite your clients to a seminar and offer an incentive to bring a few friends.

Make them a offer they can't refuse.

This is not just a tactic of gangster movies. If you search thoroughly through your feature, advantages and benefits of your offer, you can find one unique area that will undeniably appeal to your market. If you show them how they cannot lose by using you or your product then they will move to act in their own self interest.

Create offers that not only give top notch value, but also appropriate information. Give them an iron clad guarantee. There must be something in your offer that shows how confident you are in what you have or do.

Get your message to the right target audience. Then make sure that they get it over and over again.

The most important practice in marketing is getting the message to the people who welcome it as an opportunity, not an interruption. Use this frequency to develop a relationship. Education seems to build that relationship while offering something to the prospect that they find useful.

Education cuts through the message clutter because those who are looking for your solutions will better understand the nature of their problem and look more closely at your solution.

Cliche Of The Month - You Get What You Pay For

Let's take a look at "You get what you pay for", often used when attempting to justify price. You can sense that this expression, by itself, is vague and rather weak in convincing the prospect exactly why one should be willing to pay the extra number of currency units for this item than what you'd pay for a comparable product from somewhere else.

You get what you pay for is second only to 'Quality' as being a general and by itself, vague and all too generic expression used in advertising and selling.

Theme and Variations

To create the desired impact, you need to use a variation of this basic theme, specifically tailored to whatever it is you're marketing. Once again, let's take the example of "You get what you pay for". Here are some specifically applied variations of this basic theme of justifying price:

You pay peanuts, you get monkeys - means you cannot realistically expect to hire good, willing, dedicated, experienced workers that will likely perform to your expectations for the wages you're proposing to pay them. Notice how this is specifically tailored to the subject of hiring workers, vendors and service providers.

Buying cheap merchandise to save money is like stopping a clock to save time brings to mind past experiences of buying cheap articles of clothing from a discount store rather than a major mall department store. After a while you've seen that article of clothing coming apart at the seams or something. You soon found yourself going out to buy the more expensive version of that same item of clothing.

It's worth the higher price if it 's exactly what you want. - make sure you get what you really want and not settle for anything less. And make sure it is the right thing for whatever. Check out the manufacturer's track record, consumer opinions, etc. You'll come away satisfied even if you could have spent less. You're more self-assured of something that will deliver on performance and durability. You're confident of not having to make the same purchase again any time soon.

Price should not be the only consideration - means one should find out whether the higher-priced item offers you additional benefits over the less expensive option. A lower priced laptop computer might have less memory, fewer USB ports, shorter battery operating time, etc. A less expensive digital camera will have a smaller number of pixels, which means you cannot enlarge a portion of the picture to view details without the picture becoming fuzzy.

Spending less than what you should could cost you everything - like buying insurance that does not cover some contingencies. Hiring a contractor that does not pay attention to details like closely following safety standards. Someone getting hurt in your building because of a handrail that did not hold can sue you for personal injury.

It's not asking too much for something that will last you a lifetime. Indeed, there are things you'll buy only once in your life - like a fine set of cookware, or a $300.00 pair of Gucci or Cole-Haan patent leather oxfords to wear to weddings, funerals and black-tie events. If the shoes look the part, are well made and comfortable to wear for hours, by all means buy them.

Includes extras competing products don't. If one brand of something costs more than the other, are there reasons like extra features or better materials used in its manufacture or a longer warranty, more convenient customer service, etc.. It's more than just a designer label. Do the extra features mean anything to you? - Would you use the camera in a cell phone? How about the image stabilizer on a camcorder? (In other words, would you use your camcorder in a moving vehicle?)

This will save you money in the long run. - Durability, freedom from repairs, less down time, etc.

As you can see, there are many ways you can tailor this over-used expression to suit your product or service. I'm sure you can think of others beside what I've just shown you. You just have to figure out exactly how you're going to justify your price, especially after looking at what your competition has to offer.

Cheap Imprinted Pens Aren't Always A Good Idea To Promote Your Business

Any type of promotional item or any other item that has your name on it gives a direct impression of your business. Do you want your business name linked to pen that quits writing after a month, or starts to skip. Or how about the worst possible thing that can happen, a pen you give a customer explodes or leaks in his pocket and ruins his favorite shirt.

Don't try to find the cheapest imprinted pen that you can. I'm sure you can find some out there as cheap as maybe a dime each. Why would you bother with giving a potential customer that you are trying to convince to do business with you a pen that you know is almost worthless. You are probably better off just giving them the dime that the pen cost. Another way to view it is: Would you do business with a company that gives you something that is worth a dime, and doesn't even work? Be proud of your business name and don't put it on a piece of junk.

There is sometimes a place for cheap imprinted pens. You usually see them in political campaigns because all they want to do is give out things with their name on it. They are just trying to build name recognition for about a month, they don't care how long the pen lasts. Don't get your business name compared to your local politicians.

The BIC company puts out an amazing quality pen at very very reasonable price. Custom imprinted pens by BIC are the largest selling item on our website. We run sales on BIC brand pens that put them at almost the same cost as the cheap pens that other people offer. BIC offers over 200 color combinations with various colors of barrels, caps, and trim. When you include the different colors available for the imprint there has to be a way to match the pen to your business colors with just a one color imprint. If you can keep your imprint to one color it will help you get the cheap imprinted pen that you want

You Just Can't Ignore A Mobile Ad?

We all agree that when something pops up on our mobile, it is difficult to ignore it. Whether it's an annoying message or an operators' promotional ad campaign, we just end up reading it. Mobile phone has become the most ubiquitous device that stays with us all the time, making it an ideal medium to reach consumer. We see so many ads appearing on TV channels and internet sites that they all seem to get lost in the clutter. If we compare all the mediums, it is found out that mobile advertising has a greater potential than internet advertising as the delivery medium is more immediate and personal.

The three major internet based providers - Microsoft, Google and Yahoo - consider the mobile advertising service as a lucrative investment that can possibly increase their revenue even more than the online advertising. Google and Yahoo have already started to include advertising in their mobile search and portal properties. Microsoft has recently announced that it is entering the mobile advertising space. It has started by placing banner ads on the MSN pages such as viewed on mobile screens. Microsoft has previously offered mobile display advertising in Belgium, France, Japan, Spain and the U.K, but now it has been implemented for United States users. Paramount Pictures and Jaguar Cars are among the first companies to advertise on MSN Mobile in the U.S. market. The technology for mobile advertisements comes from a recent acquisition by Microsoft of ScreenTonic.

It is very important for the players to deliver those ads which are truly relevant and unintrusive for the user. Digging deeper into the mobile ad market, Kelsey Group's U.S. Mobile Advertising Forecast predicts that the U.S. mobile ad market will grow from $33.2 million in 2007 to $1.4 billion in 2012, a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 112 percent. Other analysts have predicted the mobile ad market will grow to anywhere from $1.5 billion to $2.9 billion in 2011.

Apart from this, the main goal in mobile ads is to go beyond exposure and click-throughs and exactly understand the mobile ad effectiveness. A Director in Global Innovation at Millward Brown stated, "Marketers need to measure thoughts as well as thumbs when it comes to mobile advertising. Looking just at click-throughs or site visits; provide no indication of what people feel about brands which are advertised in this relatively new medium."

In the present state we can only say that by looking at the way with which mobile market is growing, it seems like mobile ad will become a big business down the road, making it a more lucrative business than online advertising.

Improving Company Logos For Promotional Use

In the realm of company or corporate graphic design there is a fine line between art and design. Art is free-flowing, more exploratory and allows for endless creativity that is easily tapped into. Design, on the other hand, is a more specific and tailored art form more centralized where objectives are set and expected to be met, both in terms of business and aesthetics.

When logos are brought into such parameters design methods are always selected over art expressions. Most companies seek design elements rather than tinges of art when constructing their logos simply because there are professional goals to be reached.

The reasoning behind preferring design over art when formulating a company's logo is solely to establish a business's identity. Keeping this in mind and by meshing such a mindset within promotional item and trade show tactics will yield any and all companies that much more success.

Where A Logo Goes, So Does It's Company

When promotional items are given away at trade shows a multitude of diverse peoples obtain and take these items they receive with them to wherever. Most of these items, if designed well and specifically for all-encompassing purposes, will be carried around most everywhere or placed in a spot where heavy traffic of peoples is common. This in mind, it's important to design a company logo that is clear, concise and recognizable, especially if it will be stamped on a promo item.

When tailoring a company logo there are a few aesthetic qualities that need considering, especially if one is attempting to optimize company identity and/or weave such information into promotional uses:

Catching Eyes

Obviously, for any company's logo to be successful it must be attractive and therefore should prove eye-catching to onlookers. This attractive quality though should not be intrusive through the aid of overly bold colors or special effects. Simplicity is best, as it meets and even exceeds objectives, maintains professionalism and yet, still impresses company association into those within viewing distance. Even more, with attractive qualities weaved into logo designs, a satisfaction or pleasing mood hits viewers and leaves an impact on them.

Company Recognizability

Leaving an impact through logo aesthetics creates an ongoing, yet beneficial cycle. This cyclical process spurs company recognition. A viewer of an enjoyable company logo will associate those positive feelings to the actual company itself. Aesthetically speaking and likewise, if a company's logo is displeasing or poorly designed, those acquired negative feelings will then be transferred over and associated with that particular company, instilling ill-feelings, which is something any company tries to avoid.

Universal Quality

With aesthetic pleasing and logo to company recognizability, an additional quality is guaranteed to take any company logo to heightened levels of success. This attribute is adaptability. Designing and utilizing a logo that can play a universal role and satisfy the maintaining of company composure is essential. A logo that is capable of withstanding being presented on a plethora of promotional items, in various formats and during any time of year is all too beneficial.

If your company logo is drab and not pushing your business forward it's probably because it lacks some of the above qualities that are essential in pushing a business ahead. Polish that company logo with the above elements and in turn, one will establish snazzy promotional items by mere logo addition and impression. Doing this and distributing promo items well and methodically will spread good word of one's company, it's a guarantee.

Track Your Customer's Data For Advertising Success

If you are currently running a business or thinking of starting one, then you already know the importance of advertising. However, you may not know that doing this simple trick may help increase your advertising return.

Do you grocery shop? Of course you do, otherwise you would never eat, or at least not eat at home. Ever notice at most, probably all by now, that grocery stores want you to sign up for those key cards or key tags?

If you are not sure what I am talking about, let me give you a little definition of what a key tag is. The supermarkets (and other stores) have you sign up, filling out a simple one form piece of paper with your name, address, email etc., on it and in turn they give you this key card or also known as a "special savings card".

In return for signing up for their card, certain products are marked down at a discount and only those who have this magical card (not really magic but you get the point) receive the discount. Many people wonder why a store would put their customers through that hassle of signing up for it just to get a few pennies off a product. The answer is simple, marketing and tracking.

Stores aren't doing this because they would like to see their most loyal customers buy from them at a discount, although that may make up about 5% of the thought process. They do it to track what you buy and how often.

Every time you swipe that key tag, the store knows how much you bought, what you bought, the days in which you shop and so on. This information is golden when it comes to spending their advertising dollars. If the store knows you are more likely to buy frozen spinach over frozen beans, or if you are more than likely to shop on a Tuesday rather than a Friday, they can then tailor their advertising to reflect the customers shopping habits.

Now imagine hundreds if not thousands of data points like this on your customers. You can then use all of this data to really come up with a marketing and advertising campaign that would surely work. Key cards, tags and special savings cards may not go with what your business does, but I can guarantee that setting up some kind of tracking of your customers will.

If you have an existing business and a decent customer base, then you need to obtain their spending habits. When do they like to come in and buy? What do they buy? How much? You need to ask these questions about your customers, and more importantly answer them honestly. The more you know about your customers, the better your advertising will be.

For example, if after you collect your data you find out males from the ages of 24 to 35 are three times more likely to buy your product, you can now tailor your advertising efforts to that demographic.

If you are looking to starting a business, get feedback on what you are selling. This will give you an immense amount of data to jump start your business. Whichever direction you take to obtain data on your customers, the key here is to do it and get as much of it as possible. This will aid your business's ad campaign a great deal.

Don't Forget Your Margins When Binding!

Most Graphic Designers have learned early on that you need to take into consideration the finishing processes (folding, trimming, binding and finishing etc) before you progress too far with a design job. Not taking these things into consideration can incur costly re-designs or re-prints, for example if you did not allow a wide enough inner margin on the inside pages of a perfect bound publication. This article will help you to understand some of these processes better, and hopefully prevent you from making some of these common errors.

There are many different ways to combine multiple pages into a single finished piece. In its most simple form we could use staples, paper clips or binder clips to combine sheets of paper, but on a more professional level, methods are a little more elaborate. These include Saddle Stitching, Side-stitch Binding, Perfect and Case Binding, Comb Binding, Coil or Spiral Binding, Wire Binding and Post Binding to name but a few.

So, how do these binding methods actually work . . . let's find out!

Saddle Stitching

This is a very common, simple and cheap binding method and uses one or more staples on the spine of a signature. (A signature refers to the group of pages that are printed on the same sheet of paper which is then cut down and trimmed to the finished page size. The number of pages on a signature depends on your page size and the size of the printer's sheet or roll of paper.) Magazines are the type of media that most often use this method of binding. The staples that are used to anchor the signature at the spine are more commonly created from a spool of wire. When binding, the loose sheets of pages are laid over a saddle-like holder (which is where the name comes from), the wire is put into position, cut to the correct shorter length, bent into shape and then the legs of the staple are forced through the signatures. The legs are then bent into the staple shape. This whole process is done incredibly quickly, usually less than 2 seconds from start to finish. Creep can be a major factor though when using this method of binding if large numbers of signatures are used, so remember to allow for larger margins when using this method, especially when the outside edge of the bound job is trimmed to produce a flat outer edge.

Figure 1: In saddle stitching, wire is fed from a roll, bent into shape, the legs are forced through the signatures and then bent into the staple shape.

Side-stitch Binding

A similar process to saddle stitching, but rather than putting the staple through the spine, the staple is instead put through the sides of the signatures, close to the fold. The resulting binding is not quite as nice as saddle stitching.

Perfect Binding

This method of binding is commonly used in larger publications (50+ pages) such as annual reports and textbooks. In this method of binding, all of the project's signatures are placed together (usually in smaller groups of 16-page signatures) and stitched through the spine and then the spine edge is ground to a perfectly flat edge. The cover of the project is then glued to the outside edge of the signatures.

Figure 2: Signatures are placed together in groups of 16-pages and then glued into the cover.

Whilst perfect binding does not suffer from the same degree of creep that you might find in a magazine, consideration should still be made for the effects of combining a large number of pages with the relatively stiff spine of a perfect binding. Even a 192-page magazine (relatively slender by comparison to some) can show a large degree of pinching of the pages in the centre of the finished magazine, making it difficult to read text near the interior bound edge. Remember to compensate for this by using wider inside margins when designing your pages.

Figure 3: When perfect binding large numbers of pages, remember to allow for pinch and ensure you add a larger inner margin (right).

Case Binding

This process is almost the same as perfect binding and is ideal for larger hardcover books. In this method, after the signatures have been ground off, the spine is reinforced with a gauze or cloth strip before affixing a hard cover.

Comb Binding

This method of binding is ideal for business reports, cookbooks and workbooks and is often used by companies to bind their own short-run publications internally and it allows the bound booklet to lie flat when opened. Small rectangular holes are punched down the edge of a stack of pages and the plastic teeth of the comb binding are then inserted into these. The spines can be removed and reattached if required, but this method does make adding a printed spine difficult, but not impossible. Once again, remember to allow wider inner margins to avoid the punch holes.

Figure 4: Comb binding allows books to be opened flat but makes a printed spine difficult.

Coil or Spiral Binding

In this method of binding, a wire or plastic spiral is threaded through round holes punched in the edges of a stack of pages. As with comb binding, this binding method allows the pages to lie flat when opened.

Figure 5: As with comb binding, coil binding allows the books pages to lie flat, but does not allow a printed spine.

Wire Binding

Wire binding uses tooth-like loops of wire in a similar fashion to comb binding; however it produces a much sturdier binding than the plastic comb binding method.

Post Binding

When producing heavy-duty publications with content that is constantly changing, this method might be the most suitable solution. Often seen in wallpaper sample books, metal posts are pushed through punched holes in the book and anchored with bolts that thread into the centre of the posts. This allows you to easily add or remove pages and can also allow an exterior cover with an imprinted spine.

There are many different variations on these basic binding methods, such as using ribbons or screws for example, but these tend to entail limited print runs and a large amount of hands-on work to produce them, resulting in larger make-up expense. Whichever method you choose to use, plan it carefully and don't forget the margins!

TV Advertising

Well it must otherwise corporate America would not be using TV advertising. There are many reasons why TV advertising works and it starts from an early age on a subconscious level. If you remember (actually you probably don't being you where so young) when you were just learning to feed yourself. You really had no idea what you were doing. You would watch your mom , dad or primary care giver put the spoon up to your mouth and fill it with your favorite food. One day the person who was feeding you decided that it was time for you to take over the job and handed you the spoon. If you think back to that day you would remember how awkward you were. Out of balance, wiggly arm and little coordination you persisted. Time after time as you tried, most of your attempts would end up on the floor, table, hair or just about anywhere but in your mouth. So guess what TV advertising companies know this and profit billions and billions of dollars each year. Where is this leading? Read on and let me explain.

After you mastered finding your mouth on a consistent basis, your mom, dad or primary care giver decided once again that it was time for you to proceed onto yet another milestone of precious life. Time to start walking. As crawling is now a thing of the not so distant past your parents sit on the floor facing each other with arms out stretched with you standing there dangling from their fingertips. With smiling face and cooing like infants your parents begin training you to embark on the first step of your life. If you think back you will remember that you wobbled like the town drunk on New Years Eve. Those first several steps seemed literally impossible. Step after step stumbling into furniture that left you with bumps and bruises; you finally made your parents proud by mastering the new task once again. Your parents were so proud. They hugged and kissed you until your cheeks were as red as if you were playing out in the snow for hours on end. You loved the attention and felt very much loved and accepted by another human being and didn't even know that this feeling of acceptance would eventually inadvertently coheres you to gladly remove money out of your pockets at the check out counter later on in life. This is another "key" aspect that TV advertising companies fully understand. I will explain shortly and pull this all together. Lets move on to the next scene from your childhood shall we?

TV advertising and corporate America capitalizes on the next very crucial aspect of your life adding billions to their asset column,. "Cleaning your room". What? You say, does cleaning my room have to do with advertising? Let me take you back to several different time spots of your development. The first time that you parents decided that they were tiered of picking up your blocks, Hot Wheel cars and all your dolls it was time for you to be a little more self sufficient and live in an area that would shine with pride. As they tried and tried with several attempts of sweet talk reasoning with minimal results they ran out of steam. So finally at wits end they said it and "it" worked great. " It", from here on out would be one of the biggest money makers for corporate America ever. You will soon see, just hang on a little while longer and you will understand how TV advertising, almost effortlessly, lures you into your pockets for your last dime. So lets go back into your messy room where you were being artistically creative. You suddenly, out of nowhere were struck with the phrase " clean your room or you wont be able to go outside and play", "go to the movies", "hang out at the mall with friends" or "take the car out to impress your date". The feeling behind this phrase has followed you all the way to this very moment in your life and you may not have even realized it as much as TV advertising companies do. TV advertising companies rely on your up bringing more than you may realize. At this point I would like to add another relevant dramatic point that TV advertising companies prey on. This point is very huge.

As you were growing up getting older and more mature, you probably have had some sort of experience that was so frightening that you would never forget and would do almost anything to ensure that it doesn't happen to you. Yes wrinkles, being over weight, hair loss and erectile dysfunction are the TV advertising companies fastest growing marketplace segment. TV advertising companies rely on our vanity to pull in large profits for their client's shareholders.

Let me bring this in for a landing and explain to you what TV advertising companies already know in a few paragraphs.

Repetition: TV advertising companies play the same commercials over and over until it is deep rooted into our subconscious mind. Remember learning to feed yourself, walk, get dressed, drive a car and so on. Repetition is the first law of learning. What ever we do over and over has no choice but to become a habit imbedded in our subconscious that soon we are doing these things (including spending money) with out even thinking about it.

Couple that with. FEAR AND GREED in TV advertising companies message.

Fear of loss: TV advertising companies feed off of this emotion so heavily that it should be illegal. " Clean your room or else you will lose something". TV advertising companies use phrases like " Hurry while supplies last" or " buy now and save money"."Their wont be another sale like it". TV advertising companies love this one" if you want to be loved and accepted use our make-up". Well they don't have to come out and say it word for word to work in their favor. TV advertising companies are much more subtle in their messages.

In conclusion, TV advertising works by feeding off our deep rooted emotional DNA . If you begin to examine you purchasing habits you will learn that most if not all of them are directly linked to fear and greed. Plain and simple.

Exhibition Stands For The First Timer

For quite a number of reasons, exhibitions are a great place to showcase your products and services, if you are prepared to do so. To start with, you can both advertise and sell your wares at an exhibition, which gives you the ability to kill two birds with one stone. Another great thing about exhibitions is that the people who attend them are generally prepared to examine what ever it is that you are offering, by virtue of the fact that they are even there.

The shows provide a way to see first hand what works with your customers and equally as important what is working for your competitors.

Your exhibition stand must stand out from the crowd to have the desired effect and cutting corners on design may only damage your businesses reputation.

Many times you will have but a split second to get through to a curious exhibition attendant and for this reason only a professionally designed and researched display will do. After consulting with your provider, they can then make a determination based on their own previous experience what will fulfill your needs best and they have a large repertoire to select from including modular display systems, display banners, pop-ups and even large scale design systems.

With regards to the exhibition itself, you will want to do some research as to what it will actually provide for you. The promoters will always give you a projected attendance figure and many times these are inaccurate, in that less or even more people can actually end up attending. If the exhibition was held the year before then you may think of checking the attendance numbers from that previous year.

You should do a complete break-down and be realistic with yourself regarding the actual expenses. If you have never before travelled to and attended a business exhibition then you may give some consideration to consulting someone that already as, because there may be some expenses involved that you may not realize. If you are going to require lodging then you will want to check the prices during your planning stage as hotel and hotel rooms may be in short supply during the weekend of the event.

One way to save money is to share a room with someone who is also attending the event and many times the organizers will have a bulletin board just for this purpose. If you are going to be having employees working for you then you should discuss with them before hand the arrangements you have made or are making regarding lodging.

In the end, it is a cumulation of a number of factors that are going to go into you having an effective exhibition stand, that will produce actual results at your exhibition and it is no one thing that is going to a decisive factor. Formulating an effective strategy is of the utmost importance and sharing your strategy plans with your exhibition stand designer will allow him or her to bring more tools to the table for you to use in your final presentation.

Casting too wide a net can sometimes be a mistake and many times it is best if you narrow your focus when making business decisions and it is important that you let your stand designer share some of the experience that they have gathered over the years with you, as much of what they know can only be learned through experience.

Be prepared to put in a lot of hours during the duration of the show and study the planning schedule so that everything happens on time and you don't have to rush anything.

If you have the chance to suggest a site for your stand then get as far away from your competitors and as close to a complimentary stand as possible. failing that try to get next to a stand that you know will be very busy, maybe you can benefit from their foot traffic.

Business Cards - 3 Ways to Use Business Cards to Bring More Business

Do your business cards bring you new customers and sales?

Business cards are powerful little pieces of paper that can help you generate more business. These little billboards with your name on them can help you find new clients, expand your business, and leave a lasting impression of who you are.

1. Have them with you all the time. Seems obvious, doesn't it? Yet how many times have you been to a business event or even a networking event where people go specifically to find new customers, and someone says to you: Sorry, I forgot my business cards? Don't let this happen to you. Keep them handy, because you never know where they will end up.

2. Get people to read them and keep them. How do you do that? By giving them to people after you've formed a connection. You first have to establish that someone has a need or interest in your product and service. If you just hand out your cards to anyone, like sticks of chewing gum, people are less likely to feel any connection and want to contact you.

3. Make your business cards a great reflection of who you are, and the service or product your business provides. They should be professional, yet indicative of your business. Think about the color, font, and images on your cards. How can you make them more compelling to look at? How can you make it easier for someone to understand what you do or provide?

Aside from a handshake, exchanging business cards is the most common transaction we have in business. Use these incredible tools to increase your business.

You are invited to use these tips to increase your business success.

In Business Find Your Niche Market

Many experts say and truly believe that in business you can find success in a more centralized area. This area is referred to as a niche, or a niche market.

I am sure you have heard of the term, "niche market". According to the dictionary a niche market is defined as a distinct segment of the business marketplace. That definition could not be truer. For many of us in business, a lot of times we try to take on too much. We want to be the "be all, end all" for everything that a customer needs or wants. In reality that is impossible to accomplish.

If you are currently in business and sales are slow, or you are thinking of starting a business, then look to a niche market. A niche market will give you the ability to focus more clearly on the business, as it will be a more distinct segment.

For example, a friend of mine runs a home repair and renovation company. If there is any market that can be more general and have a lot of options it is that one. Just think about it. You can specialize in floors, windows, drywall, small repairs, complete kitchen makeovers, you name it.

Now imagine if my friend said he did it all. It would be impossible to become an expert at anything because his job would entail doing so many things, that he would never get the experience in one area to excel at it. Sure he might be able to do everything, because he is very handy, however in order for him to succeed in business he needs to do just a few things really well.

In knowing that, he created a niche market in the renovation and repair market where he can become an expert at it. This allows him to carve out a small area of this broad and very competitive business place where he will succeed.

You need to do the same. If you are currently running a business and it seems like you may be handling too much, find out what you really enjoy and do really well. Hopefully they are one in the same. Once you realize that, tailor your business to this specific identity.

The same above principle applies to you if you are starting a business. What do you enjoy? What makes you happy? What are you good at? Start asking yourself these questions, and more importantly answer them honestly to get a better understanding of what it is you exactly want.

Now that you have your answers, start narrowing down to find your niche market. Maybe you like handiwork, but really love to paint. There is your niche market. You get the point. Find out what it really is you want to do, and go do it. There is a niche market out there for everybody.
